Melanie is a native New Yorker, grew up in Queens, and still lives in Queens!  She has earned five degrees from CUNY.  Three of them are undergraduate degrees; fine arts, studio art, and womens' and gender studies/urban planning, and two graduate degrees; womens' and gender, and library science.  Melanie is a pioneer in the visibility of Women and People of Color the statue movement, and has published a thesis on it.  Which is used worldwide for educational, government, and private corporations purposes.

There are many reasons why Melanie chooses to make cups.  One thing is survival, and two, there are no jobs in New York City or for anywhere for that matter.  We are living in a bad economy!  Art and crafting have always been an expensive way to express oneself.  Melanie decided to put creative skills to work.  Therefore, Melanie's Cup Shop was born.
