About

Hello there, and welcome! My name is Melanie, and I am a native New Yorker, and Queens resident. I have received an MA from the CUNY Graduate Center, and MLS from Queens College. My timely research extends to women, LGBTQ, gender, race, class, and intersectionality theory, urban planning, public policy, and statue/memorial commemoration.
In Spring of 2022 I was featured in our local newspaper, Queens Gazette. In this interview I discussed my education, research, and my time working for the Queens Public Library. Being a positive figure within the community that I live and work in has brought me so much joy.
In the near future, I want to be in the academic librarian or public librarian filed. This will enable me to extend my knowledge to students and staff on how much is preserve women’s history. As seen in Foucauldian, Marxist, and Freudian thought, women have played and still hold a special role in patriarchal and hierarchical society. It is crucial because without preserving history, there is no history.
On the opposite hand, I would like to explore opportunities in the other public service fields, and outreach services. I enjoy helping others in underserved communities. I also like giving back to these communities which entails a unique friendship, sharing personal stories, giving community members opportunities that they never had before and seeing the smiles faces. That assures myself that I am appreciated, and people who are in need are satisfied with the service I bring to them.
Formally, I was an intern at City College of New York. At the college, I was studying to become a physical and digital archivist, where I was able to gain appraisal and digital repository experience. This position was rewarding because it allowed to work with ephemera, and preserved data.
In my travels I have met politicians, celebrities, activists, and comedians. The list could go on, and on. I have known a few acquaintances for many years, whom have steered me in my decision of becoming someone, rather than not only leaving my mark on society. Comedian and author, Judah Friedlander has always encouraged me to be myself, and to follow my dreams. Blackplanet.com and New York Online founder, Omar Wasow has emboldened to spread my knowledge to the world. I have interned for former Assemblywoman, Aravella Simotas of the Astoria, NY District Office. I have met Former Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz who has been a leading figure in New York City politics, and hip-hop culture. Working along side the creator of Video Music Box, producer, and Queens Public Library Hip-Hop Coordinator, the legendary Ralph McDaniels has brought a new found liking for me to community outreach services.
